What you get

  • A sprite-sheet with alpha plus manifest.json for your engine
  • State rows such as idle, walk, run, jump and attack from one base image
  • Optional loop repair for walk, run and jump cycles

Good fit

  • Turning one character still into game-ready animation atlases
  • 2D games in any engine

Not for

  • 3D assets

Overview

sprite-gen is a component-row pipeline for 2D characters. You start from one base image. The tool prepares prompts and guides, generates every animation state row, removes the chroma background, extracts frames and composes a runtime atlas with a manifest.

A second path turns short generated videos into transparent loops, with cycle-length alignment across directions. It works as a Codex or Claude skill, and the CLI can also be used on its own.

Requirements

  • Python 3 with a virtualenv (the only supported interpreter)
  • For video loops: ffmpeg, img2webp and a Grok login or XAI_API_KEY
