Claude Code Game Studios: What It Is and How to Start
A walkthrough of the most-starred Claude Code game dev template: 49 agents, 72 workflow skills, and how its first session works. Plus alternatives.
Claude Code Game Studios had 26,999 GitHub stars as of 21 October 2026, more than any other project in this directory. Its description: "Turn Claude Code into a full game dev studio — 49 AI agents, 72 workflow skills, and a complete coordination system mirroring real studio hierarchy."
What you actually get
It is a project template, not a single skill. You clone it as the root of your game. The CLAUDE.md, hooks and skills then turn each Claude Code session into a coordinated team organised like a studio: design, programming, art direction, QA and production.
All behaviour is configured in one file, project.yaml: engine, naming conventions and modes.
Prerequisites
- Git and Claude Code
- Python 3 (every skill and hook reads
project.yaml) - Bash (built into macOS and Linux; Git for Windows provides it on Windows)
- jq, recommended for hook validation
First session
git clone https://github.com/Donchitos/Claude-Code-Game-Studios.git my-game
cd my-game
claude
Start Claude Code in the root folder, the one holding CLAUDE.md and project.yaml. If you start it in a subfolder such as src/, the project's hooks, deny rules and ask-first permission mode are skipped.
Then run:
/start
It asks where you are (no idea yet, a vague concept, a clear design, or existing work) and routes you to the right workflow. Shortcuts:
/brainstorm: explore game ideas from scratch/setup-engine godot 4.7: configure your engine/project-stage-detect: analyse an existing project
Alternatives
- Godogen: an autonomous pipeline that targets Godot, Bevy or web engines and works with Claude Code or Codex.
- Vibe Jam Starter Pack: a lighter jam kit with Phaser and Three.js starters.
- Build your own: combine an engine skill pack with an MCP bridge. See Godot or Unity.
Browse every option under starter kits.
