Godot MCP & Godot AI Skills: Which Should You Use?
Godot MCP, Godot AI, GodotPrompter and more: how the main Godot agent tools differ, and how to combine them.
Godot has a fast-moving agent ecosystem. Here is how the main options fit together. Numbers are as of 21 October 2026.
MCP servers (the agent's hands)
Godot MCP (Coding-Solo): the quick start
6,226 stars, MIT. One command for Claude Code:
claude mcp add godot -- npx @coding-solo/godot-mcp
It can launch the editor, run the project, capture debug output and do basic scene editing (create_scene, add_node, load_sprite). The last commit was in April 2026. Listing →
Godot AI (hi-godot): the full editor bridge
3,111 stars, MIT, actively maintained. It is an editor add-on plus MCP server with 46 tools and 120+ operations: scenes, nodes, scripts, signals, UI, materials, animation, particles and cameras. It requires Godot 4.7+ and uv.
Install it from a GitHub release into addons/godot_ai/, then enable it under Project → Project Settings → Plugins. GDScript is fully supported. C# files are text-only, so build them yourself. Listing →
Skills (the agent's know-how)
- GodotPrompter: domain skills for Godot 4.x, such as project setup and architecture. Install with
claude plugins install godot-prompter@skillsmith. - Game Dev Agentic Skills: 99 Godot skills and 27 genre blueprints. Install a hub or one skill, never
--all. - Awesome Gamedev Agent Skills: a router plus Godot bundle:
claude plugin install godot@awesome-gamedev-agent-skills. - Godot UI Integration: a Codex skill for building a finished UI design pixel-faithfully.
A setup that works
- Godot AI for live editor control (or Godot MCP if you only need run-and-debug).
- One skill pack for conventions: GodotPrompter for focus, or Game Dev Agentic Skills for depth.
- Ask in plain language: "Add a double jump with coyote time and run the scene."
