Video to Blender (procedural-blender-nodes)

/procedural-blender-nodes

A Blender skill that turns a reference video, image or idea into editable Geometry Nodes, Shader Nodes and compositor graphs, backed by a tested 39-group node library, a linter and a validator. Requires Blender 5.2+.

What you get

  • The procedural-blender-nodes skill with a workflow and a definition of done
  • nodekit: a Python graph builder that finds sockets by name, frames blocks and lays out graphs automatically
  • 39 NK node groups in 6 modules, each built and numerically checked in Blender
  • nodes_tools.py check (zero warnings, zero lint) and validate.py for saved .blend files
  • Storybook Street example: a whole village street from one Geometry Nodes modifier

Good fit

  • Procedural props and environments: fences, ivy, streets that follow any curve
  • Rebuilding a reference clip as reusable, artist-controllable node graphs
  • Avoiding Blender 5.x API pitfalls in agent-written bpy scripts

Not for

  • Blender 4.x or older
  • Mesh generation from images; output is node systems, not scanned meshes

About this skill

Agents writing Blender node scripts work blind: they cannot see the graph, the 5.x Python API changed, and a script that runs can still leave a broken 300-node mess. This blender skill fixes that with nodekit, which builds graphs from Python, reads them back as JSON and lints them, plus a library of tested building blocks the agent instances instead of re-deriving.

Every NK group is checked with numbers in Blender, for example that a bend preserves centreline length, scatter counts follow density, and a planted foot never slides. The workflow asks for artist controls (a Primary panel of macros), presets, reuse on other inputs and honest reporting.

The showcase, Storybook Street, rebuilds a 20-second AI video as one Geometry Nodes modifier on a curve: road, half-timbered houses, bunting in the wind and a walker. Draw a new curve and you get a new street.

Requirements

  • Blender 5.2 or later (on PATH, $BLENDER, or the macOS app)
  • A coding agent that can run Python
