Godot 2D Starter

Roadmap: Engine basics

Six tested skills that take a Godot 4.7 2D game from an empty project to scenes, movement, input, saving and a full 2D kit.

For a first 2D game in Godot 4.7. Start with project structure, then the character controller, then input and saving. scenario-godot-2d adds tilemaps, cameras and pixel-perfect scaling once the basics run, and GodotPrompter covers architecture questions across the whole project. Every skill here was run headless on Godot 4.7.2.

Self-check

  • The project opens and runs headless in Godot 4.7 with no script errors
  • Gameplay code reads input actions, never raw keys
  • Movement runs in _physics_process and uses move_and_slide
  • Saves are written atomically and carry a version number
  • Pixel art uses nearest filtering and an integer-scaled viewport
