Kart Drift Boost (tiers, windows, ramps)

/mechanic-kart-drift-boost

A GameSkill original: arcade kart drift-boost rules that reward skill. Drifts charge three tiers, release opens a 0.85 s window you must press in, counter-steer adds a CUT bonus, ramps give one air and one landing boost, boosts take the maximum instead of stacking, and walls cancel everything pending.

40/40 checks passed on Canvas 2D in Chrome 156 headless (2026-10-28): trigger, a runnable example, a screenshot and self-check, one job per skill, and English + Chinese docs. Trigger checks match prompts against skill descriptions; they are not a live agent run.

Kart Drift Boost (tiers, windows, ramps)

Self-check

  • 松开漂移不会自动加速,要在窗口内按键 / Releasing a drift never boosts by itself; a press inside the window does
  • 漂移小跳不会打开落地窗口 / A drift hop never opens a landing window
  • 加速时间取最大值,不相加 / Boost time is the maximum, never the sum
  • 撞墙取消蓄力和所有待用窗口 / Wall contact cancels the charge and every pending window
  • 参考车手能跑完 3 圈并拿到 CUT、空中和落地加速 / The reference driver laps 3 times with CUT, air and landing boosts
  • npm test 和 npm run test:browser 都通过 / npm test and npm run test:browser pass

What you get

  • Bayside Kart: a top-down Canvas 2D stadium with ramps, keyboard and touch controls
  • src/logic.js: drift with hop, three charge tiers, exit window, CUT bonus, ramp air and landing windows
  • Boost time as max(remaining, new), a two-second combo, wall contact that cancels every window
  • A fixed-step kart model, a stadium track with walls and a reference driver that laps it
  • 16 Node tests and a 10-check headless Chrome test

Good fit

  • Kart and arcade racers with drift, mini-turbo and ramp tricks
  • Fixing drift boosts that stack, trigger automatically or can be spammed with hops

Not for

  • Simulation racing physics (tyre models, weight transfer)
  • Track editors or AI racing lines beyond the reference driver

Add drift boost with three charge levels and ramp tricks to my kart game, without boosts stacking forever.

About this skill

A GameSkill original, written and tested for gameskill.dev under MIT. The demo, Bayside Kart: a top-down stadium with three ramps. All rules are in src/logic.js (no DOM); the page only draws, reads input and shows the open window.

Agent steps

  1. Fixed step (1/120 s); a boost press is consumed by one step only.
  2. Earn, then spend: drifting earns a tier, release opens a 0.85 s window, a press fires the boost. Nothing is automatic.
  3. CUT: counter-steer at release adds 0.3 s.
  4. Ramps: one air boost within 0.9 s of launch, one landing boost within 0.65 s of touchdown. Drift hops never count.
  5. Max, not sum for boost time; a boost within 2 s of the last one raises the combo.
  6. Walls cancel the charge and every pending window.
  7. Events out for sparks, pop-ups and sound; a reference driver proves the defaults are reachable.

Common errors it fixes

  • Auto-boost on drift release, making drifting on straights optimal.
  • Boost timers that add up into permanent top speed.
  • Hop-spam for landing boosts.

One-button Flight (fair tap-to-flap)

A GameSkill original: the rules of a one-button flight game that is never unfair. Flaps set speed instead of adding it, a fixed-step simulation plays the same at 30 and 144 fps, the hitbox forgives grazes, and a seeded gap generator stays inside the reachable band, checked by an autopilot.
