Puretty Sprites

An MCP server for LibreSprite (a 143-tool port of aseprite-mcp) plus ComfyUI, Krita and Blender pipelines, so an agent can turn concept art into clean, grid-aligned pixel sprites animated in up to 16 directions.

Install

Tell your AI

Install the skill from https://gameskill.dev/skills/puretty-sprites/install.md

This is a tool setup (MCP server, scaffold or kit), not a standalone skill. Steps from the author's README:

Claude Code (from a clone)
git clone https://github.com/Lowkey333/puretty-sprites
cd puretty-sprites
claude

Claude Code reads the repo's .mcp.json and asks to enable two servers: libresprite (this project) and blender (MCP for Blender). Approve both.

Run the server's tests
cd libresprite-mcp && uv run pytest

158 tests; the live Krita and ComfyUI ones skip when those apps aren't running.

Commands are copied from the project's README. Check the repository before running anything on your machine.

What you get

  • libresprite-mcp: drawing, layers, palettes, animation, slices, export, pixelize and quality-check tools (143 in all)
  • Blender scripts: sprite_render.py renders a 3D character to frames from 1 to 16 directions; auto_rig.py adds a skeleton and eight animations (idle, walk, run, jump, attack, cast, hit, death); retarget.py applies motion capture
  • ComfyUI workflow templates for pixel-art concepts and a Krita bridge plugin the agent can talk to
  • Worked examples: a hand-drawn witch, a full concept-to-sprite run, and a second auto-rigged hero

Good fit

  • Consistent multi-direction character animation: model it in 3D once, then render every direction and action as pixel frames
  • Cleaning AI-generated images into real pixel art with a fixed grid and a small palette
  • Drawing small sprites and idle loops directly from a prompt

Not for

  • Agents other than Claude Code without manual MCP setup: the repo ships a Claude Code .mcp.json only
  • Quick one-off sprites: the full 3D route needs Blender, ComfyUI and a 3D generator such as TRELLIS.2
  • Production use without review: it is a brand-new project with few users

Prompt
Render integrations/blender/examples/test_character.blend as an 8-direction walk at 48 px and turn it into a sprite.

Overview

Puretty Sprites starts from a simple observation: image models can't keep animation frames aligned, so if you want a character that walks in eight directions, build it in 3D first. The repo gives an agent the whole chain. ComfyUI makes concept art, a 3D generator and Blender turn it into a rigged model, sprite_render.py renders each direction and action, and the LibreSprite MCP server pixelizes the frames onto a true grid with a limited palette and exports sheets and GIFs.

You don't have to use the 3D route. The LibreSprite server works on its own with just uv, for drawing pixel by pixel, building animations, applying palettes such as endesga32, and pixelizing an existing image onto a layer.

The libresprite-mcp/ server is derived from aseprite-mcp, and both are MIT-licensed. Close a file in LibreSprite before asking the agent to change it again, because LibreSprite doesn't reload files edited outside it.

It pairs with MCP for Blender, which the repo's config enables alongside it, and with pixelwright for code-based cleanup of AI pixel art.

Requirements

  • uv
  • LibreSprite (to open and edit results)
  • Optional: Blender, ComfyUI and Krita with Krita AI Diffusion for the 3D and generation routes
