Install

Godot AssetLib
AssetLib tab → search "Godot MCP Toolkit" → Download → Install

Or extract a GitHub release into your project's addons/ folder, then enable the plugin in Project Settings.

MCP bridge
npx -y @npgamedev/godot-mcp-server

The plugin's dock writes a .mcp.json for your client. On Windows wrap npx with cmd /c. Needs Node.js 22+.

Commands are copied from the project's README. Check the repository before running anything on your machine.

What you get

  • Consolidated MCP tools covering 150+ editor operations: scenes, nodes, scripts, resources, input map and playtests
  • Playtest runs whose output and errors are read back to the agent
  • Batch script_edit and input-map rename/restore (v1.1.0)
  • A GDScript (and C#) extension API to register project-specific tools with hot reload and timeouts
  • Bundled workflow and extension-authoring agent skills

Good fit

  • Letting an agent build and test inside a live Godot editor while you watch
  • Projects that want custom MCP tools written in GDScript

Not for

  • Godot 3 projects
  • A minimal one-command bridge: see Godot MCP (Coding-Solo)

Overview

Godot MCP Toolkit is an editor addon: once enabled, the Godot editor itself becomes an MCP server and your assistant talks to it through the @npgamedev/godot-mcp-server bridge. The agent can create scenes, edit scripts, inspect and change nodes, run playtests and read the results, all in the open editor.

Highlights

  • 150+ operations grouped into consolidated tools so the agent's tool list stays small.
  • Extensions: register your own tools in GDScript or C#, with hot reload, per-tool timeouts and cancellation.
  • Companion skills ship inside the addon to teach agents the toolkit workflow.
  • Version 1.1.0 added batch script edits and input-map rename and restore.
