Free Game Stack (pick from 12 free open-source repos, wire them, ship to itch.io)
/free-game-stack
A GameSkill original that turns the popular "12 free GitHub repos, a game studio for $0" list into a plan: one engine and at most one tool per need, chosen from Godot, Phaser, Babylon.js, Kaplay, PixiJS, Matter.js, LDtk, Piskel, Howler.js, ink, Colyseus and butler, with licences checked and a reason for every tool left out. Ships a picker, an ink compiler step, a pack step and a pre-upload check, and Lantern Courier, a tested example using Kaplay, ink, Matter.js and a Colyseus room.

Tested by GameSkill
27/27 checks passed on Node (picker, ink, Matter.js, Colyseus, ship check) + Chrome headless (packed game) (2026-11-03): trigger, a runnable example, a screenshot and self-check, one job per skill, and English + Chinese docs. Trigger checks match prompts against skill descriptions; they are not a live agent run.
Test reportGameSkill's tested copy
Written and tested by GameSkill for gameskill.dev. The ZIP holds the whole skill: SKILL.md and its Chinese version, scripts, a runnable example, tests, the self-check list and our test report.
A GameSkill original, released under MIT. The ZIP keeps LICENSE and CREDITS.md, which lists the workflow inspiration, the CC0 test assets and the third-party libraries with their licenses.

Self-check
- 只选一个引擎 / One engine only
- 每个额外工具都对应 brief 里的一个需求 / Every extra tool answers a need in the brief
- 装之前先把选型结果给用户看 / Show the picked stack before installing anything
- 每块单独测完再拼 / Test each piece alone before joining them
- 上传前 check-ship 必须 PASS / check-ship must PASS before upload
- 密钥不进客户端,保留每个库的许可证 / No keys in the client; keep each library's licence

- The 12 tools with checked licences, when to pick and when to skip each one, and a fallback, in English and Chinese
- tools/pick-stack.mjs: a brief in, one engine and one line per need out, plus the tools left out
- tools/pack-web.mjs and tools/check-ship.mjs: a web build that works on itch.io, checked before butler push
- Lantern Courier: Kaplay game with an ink briefing, a Matter.js crate, a Colyseus relay room, all tested
Good fit
- Making a game with free, open-source tools only
- Turning a long list of repos into a small, shippable stack
- Adding dialogue, multiplayer or an itch.io release to a small web game
Not for
- Deep engine work: use the godot-* skills or pixijs-skills
- Paid engines or asset stores
Try this prompt
I want to make a tiny browser game with a short dialogue, online play for friends, and put it on itch.io. Use only free open-source tools, pick the smallest stack and show me why.About this skill
Free Game Stack is a GameSkill original for the moment someone has a list of free repos and wants a game. The agent writes a short brief (web or desktop, 2D or 3D, size, needs), runs the picker over twelve well-known open-source tools, and shows one engine plus one line per need before installing anything. Every tool left out gets a reason, so the project does not end up with three renderers and no game.
The twelve come from a public list posted on X by @iiiichigo_chan: Godot, Phaser, Babylon.js, Matter.js, PixiJS, Kaplay, LDtk, Piskel, Howler.js, ink, Colyseus and butler. All twelve were MIT or Apache-2.0 when we checked on 2026-11-03. They are linked, not bundled.
Lantern Courier, the worked example, uses only what the picker chose for it: Kaplay for the game and its chime, ink for the dock keeper's briefing, Matter.js for a crate on a ramp, a Colyseus relay room where the server clamps each step, and a packed build that passes the itch.io check.

Requirements
- Node 18+ (pick-stack and check-ship use built-ins only)
- For the example: npm ci (kaplay, inkjs, matter-js, Colyseus, puppeteer-core) and Chrome or Chromium

Godot, One Mechanic at a Time (reference folder, grey box, tested mechanics)
A GameSkill original for building a Godot 4 game with an agent in an order that holds up: a reference folder with a style-prompt JSON, a grey box, then one mechanic per prompt in its own script with its own headless playtest, re-running every earlier playtest before the next. Ships templates, checkers for the reference folder and project layout, and a tested 2D example (run and jump, then glide across a gap) whose playtests catch a broken mechanic.
Godot Export
Export Godot 4.7 games for desktop, web and mobile: export presets, headless CLI builds for CI, web COOP/COEP and server builds.
Godot Multiplayer
